Man with apparent stab wounds dies in Galway

A man has died in Galway following an apparent stabbing.

Gardai said an investigation has been launched into a fatal assault after the suspected stabbing at a house on Cardinal Cushing Road, Mervue, shortly after 4am.

A man in his late 30s suffered what appear to be stab wounds in the incident.

He received treatment at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Galway, where he was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination is to be arranged.

A man in his mid 60s was arrested at the house.

Gardai said the scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

The State Pathologist's Office has been notified.
