Men held over gardai shooting

Two men have been arrested after shots were fired at armed gardai as they attempted to stop a car.

The officers, who were not injured in the shooting, tried to intercept the vehicle at Clonmoyle, Rathangan, Co Kildare at about 1am when the incident occurred.

Gardai pursued the car and the men, both aged in their 20s, were arrested a short distance away and a firearm was recovered.

The armed officers did not return fire during the incident.

Gardai said the men are being held at Leixlip Garda Station under Section 30, of the Offences Against the State Act.
