Million euro cannabis haul found

A one million euro cannabis haul has been recovered in a sting operation involving drugs squad officers.

Between 100 and 150 kilos of the drug in herb, resin and pollen form was recovered in a raid on business premises in Slane, Co Meath.

Two men, aged 42 and 44, were arrested under drug trafficking laws.

A Garda spokesman said the drugs would be further analysed but initial estimates gave the haul a street value of between 750,000 and one million euro.

The raid was part of an intelligence-led operation involving officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit supported by the Organised Crime Unit, Revenue's Customs Service and local officers from Meath and Louth.

The two suspects were being detained at Kells Garda Station under the section two of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
