Missing account details of AIB customers returned to bank

Account details of more than 500 AIB customers have been found, the bank has said.

The documents had been missing since August 31 after an AIB worker lost them in a car park in Galway city centre.

It has since emerged that a member of the public found the documents in the car park and handed them into a local business.

AIB said the business owner had forgotten he had the documents until he heard media reports that they were missing.

He then contacted the bank and they have now been returned.

Names, balance details, fee data and internal codes were among the information contained on the documents.

AIB said all the information has been retrieved and it has informed the Data Protection Commissioner.

The bank apologised on Wednesday for the lost data.
