Missing girl found safe after massive search

A missing 12-year-old schoolgirl was found safe and well last night after a massive search operation.

The girl -- who was reported missing from her Castletownbere home in west Cork at 5pm -- was discovered at a location in the town shortly after 10.30pm.

A massive search operation had been launched for her which involved gardai, fire brigade, Irish Coastguard officials and Castletownbere residents.

The search was led by the Irish Coastguard's inshore rescue craft and the Shannon-based Sikorsky helicopter was also dispatched to west Cork.

The helicopter -- which is equipped with infra-red search cameras -- had only arrived in the vicinity of the west Cork town when the girl was found.
