New searches in hunt for the killers of Garda Adrian Donohoe

Police investigating the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe have carried out fresh searches in the Co Louth area where he was shot dead.

Gardai officers carried out a series of searches in the Carlingford area, close to the border with Northern Ireland yesterday.

These were follow-on searches from ones conducted by the PSNI this month in south Armagh.

PSNI officers from the Serious Crime Branch have been assisting in the investigation. They seized mobile phones and documents when they searched four houses in south Armagh on April 8.

The 41-year-old father-of-two was fatally wounded when he was shot in the head by a gang as they robbed the Lordship Credit Union in Carlingford on January 25.

He had just got out of his car to check why another vehicle had driven across the car park exit of the credit union.

Police believe that after the shooting the gang travelled in a blue Volkswagen Passat to Fews Forest outside Newtownhamilton, where it was set on fire.
