Newlywed father dies after crash in Donegal

By Staff Reporter

A father-of-one who had just married in June has lost his life in a car crash in Co Donegal.

James Gallagher (39) was killed when his car slid off the road and struck a pole as temperatures plummeted to -6 degrees in Gortahork on Sunday night.

Mr Gallagher and his wife Yvonne had married in the summer, and had one daughter Lilly-May.

Gardai said conditions at the time were treacherous with a heavy frost warning and temperatures dipping below freezing. Local curate Fr Brian O'Fearraigh said Mr Gallagher was a "kind-hearted fella".

Meanwhile, 14 people, including 10 children, were injured after a head-on collision in Co Kerry shortly before 6pm last night.

A hired Peugeot car carrying two holidaymakers from the UK with their three children collided with a Renault minibus which had a trailer attached outside the village of Farranfore. One person was treated for serious back injuries.
