Obama’s Irish cousin loses job
An Irish cousin of US president Barack Obama has lost his job as the economic downturn continues to hit the country.
Co Offaly native Henry Healy was thrust into the global spotlight when an American genealogist found Obama’s Irish ancestral home in Moneygall and named Mr Healy as his eighth cousin.
Mr Healy has since played host to the Obamas during their visit last year and has enjoyed a number of media and official engagements because of his connection to the president.
But confirming that he lost his job as a bookkeeper at a plumbing firm, Mr Healy has revealed an interest in taking up a diploma course to become a teacher.
