Pair held following drugs seizure

Gardai have arrested two men following the seizure of drugs with a potential street value of 6.5 million euro.

The herbal cannabis and cannabis resin was hidden in consignments of frozen meat at premises in Ballyfermot in Dublin and Newbridge, Co Kildare.

The seizure followed a joint operation between gardai and customs.

Officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit, along with gardai from Ballyfermot, carried out two raids in Dublin and Kildare on Friday afternoon.

They found 180kg of herbal cannabis and 630kg of cannabis resin at two premises - on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot and in the Togher Business Park in Newbridge.

Two men, aged 36 and 43, have been arrested and are being detained under the Drug Trafficking Act at Clondalkin Garda Station.

They can be questioned for up to a week.
