Pair held over death of kickboxer

A man and a woman have been arrested over the killing of a young champion kickboxer.

The pair are being questioned at Dundalk Garda station about the death of teenager Niall Dorr after a street row last October.

The man, aged in his 30s, and the woman, in her 20s, were arrested in the town and are being held under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

Mr Dorr, 18, died two days after sustaining head and facial injuries during an assault on Castle Road in Dundalk.

He had been walking with three friends along the road when a row broke out with another group.

The teenager had been at an interview to join the Army just hours beforehand and was due to celebrate his 19th birthday in November.

He won a silver medal for Ireland in the World Kickboxing Championships.

Eight people have now been arrested in connection with Mr Dorr's death.
