Pair remanded over heroin seizure

Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of a 2.4 million euro haul of heroin.

Brian Kavanagh, 26, of Wheatley Hall, Clonee, Co Meath, and Peter Murray, 28, of Bellgree Heights, Tyrellstown, west Dublin, were both charged at Dublin District Court with possession of the drug and intent to supply.

The 12kg stash of drugs was found when members of the Garda national drugs unit searched a number of cars in Kill, Co Kildare, on Tuesday.

It was the largest seizure of heroin in the Republic for two years.

The men were remanded on bail to appear again in Blanchardstown District Court next month.

Both men were ordered to surrender their passports and sign on three times a week at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
