Passengers evacuated in coach blaze

Passengers on a Bus Eireann coach have been evacuated before it was destroyed in a fire.

Eleven people on board the 6.40am service from Dundalk to Dublin were hurried off the vehicle after the driver spotted the blaze while on the M1 motorway.

A spokesman for the company said no-one was injured.

"Just after 8am, about half a mile from the toll plaza on the M1, the driver noticed smoke coming from he tail," he said.

"The driver brought the passengers to a safe place away from the vehicle."

Fire crews attended the scene and the blaze was extinguished at about 8.45am.

Passengers completed their journey to Dublin on a different coach.

Bus Eireann said it was too early to say what caused the fire.
