Pedestrian killed in road accident

A pedestrian has been knocked down and killed near Carrick-on-Shannon.

The accident happened at about 4.30am on Saturday morning and involved a van and a man in his 20s.

It happened on the N4 at Ardcarne, between Boyle and Carrick-on-Shannon.

The victim had a shaven head and was wearing blue jeans, white running shoes, a grey T-shirt and a dark charcoal coloured zip-up top.

Gardai advised motorists to avoid using this route as the N4 was closed in both directions at the scene for forensic examination.
