Popular gay bar in Dublin to offer free HIV tests
A popular gay bar in Dublin is to offer patrons the opportunity for a free HIV test.
Pantibar is the first of a number of venues in Dublin, Cork and Limerick to offer the test, which has a turnaround time of just 30 seconds.
The scheme comes after concerns were raised that young men in particular under-estimate the risk of the disease.
Those who test positive will be referred for treatment, which has transformed over the years since HIV was first detected.
Funding for the ambitious project was announced by Irish acting Minister for Health Leo Varadkar at the recent launch of Ireland's first National Sexual Health Strategy.
