Protests held at education cuts

Protests against planned education cuts have been held in counties Mayo and Donegal.

Demonstrators claim changes to pupil-teacher ratios will hit hard in rural areas and could see many small schools close their doors.

In Mayo an estimated 2,000 protesters marched on the constituency office of Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Castlebar to voice their opposition to the plans.

In Gweedore in the heart of Co Donegal's Gaeltacht more than 500 people took part in a protest.

They are worried about the impact of teacher reductions on Irish speaking schools.

Teachers, parents and pupils were at the forefront of today's demonstrations.
