Rory McIlroy appointed UNICEF Ireland Ambassador

UNICEF Ireland today announced that golfing star Rory McIlroy has been appointed a UNICEF Ireland Ambassador.

As an Ambassador, McIlroy will help fundraise, educate and advocate in support of UNICEF’s global mission to help reduce the number of daily preventable deaths of children, from 22,000 to zero.

"I’ve known about UNICEF for a long time – particularly through their partnership with FC Barcelona and the fact that Lionel Messi is an international Ambassador, so I'm thrilled to become an Ambassador today” Rory McIlroy said at the announcement.

“I'm looking forward to working with UNICEF, making a field visit and learning as much as I can so I can help children around the world" continued the newly appointed UNICEF Ambassador.

McIlroy joins a celebrated roster of well-known celebrities who have embraced UNICEF through the years, stars such as Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne, Donncha O’Callaghan, Dermot Earley, Joe Canning, Cathy Kelly and Dustin the Turkey, among others.
