Miss Ireland Rozanna Purcell poses in her national costume

Irish model Rozanna Purcell has wowed – and puzzled — Miss Universe judges with her ‘national' costume.

Romantic memories of traditional Ireland were quickly forgotten when the UCD student stepped out in her interpretation of a ‘Celtic Warrior'.

As the Tipperary native (19) battles it out with 100 other beauties for the Miss Universe finals in Las Vegas, each contestant is required to sport their own national costume.

And her flesh-baring Celtic Warrior themed outfit shows Ireland has come a long way since the days of Grainne, the Elizabethan Pirate Queen.

While history buffs may be upset to see Rozanna's interpretation of a Celtic Warrior as a combination of fringe hot pants and platform wedges paired with a floor-length cape — she still fitted in with the equally outlandish outfits of the competition, which takes place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Vegas on Monday.

Rozanna is regarded by bookies as a “decent outside bet” to win the competition.
