RTE’s Gerry Ryan ‘on coke at Eurovision’
RTE presenter Gerry Ryan took cocaine minutes before going on stage to present the Eurovision Song Contest, a friend has claimed.
Gareth O’Callaghan, who knew the late broadcaster when he worked at 2FM, said Gerry snorted the drug backstage at Dublin’s Point Theatre in 1994 during the best night of his career.
Mr O’Callaghan said: “I was told by a number of people, who I thought were reliable sources, that he had taken cocaine on the night of the Eurovision Song Contest.
“I don't know who the supplier was, but I thought: ‘No, he couldn't be, on the biggest night of his life, he couldn't jeopardise that’.”
