Security workers robbed by gunman

Two security workers have been held up at gunpoint as they delivered cash to a shopping centre, gardai have said.

A man armed with a handgun approached one of the workers as he brought money to the Rathfarnham shopping centre in south Dublin at lunchtime on Thursday.

No-one was injured in the robbery and no shots were fired, said a Garda spokesman.

An accomplice drove the pair away in a red Skoda Octavia getaway car which was found on fire a short while later on Springfield Avenue in Templeogue.

Gardai said the incident happened in Butterfield Avenue, Rathfarnham, at about 12.45pm.

It is understood the men got away with a box of cash.

Later, in a follow-up operation, two men and one woman, all in their late 30s to early 40s, were arrested in the Ballyfermot area.

They are being held at Terenure and Rathmines garda stations under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
