Somali community urged to help murder probe gardai after Waterford death

A murder inquiry has been launched after a Somalian man was found dead in a flat.

Abdi Rasheed Kaaheen Shire, 48, was found in an apartment on Wellington Street in Waterford city on Tuesday morning.

Gardai initially treated his death as suspicious but subsequently upgraded it to a murder inquiry after a post-mortem examination was carried out.

Detectives have not released the man's cause of death for operational reasons.

It is understood the dead man had lived in the Waterford city area and officers appealed to members of the local and extended Somali community who may be able to help with the investigation to come forward.
