Teenage boy (14) dies after car he was driving crashes near Londonderry and Donegal border

A 14-year-old boy has died after the car he was driving crashed near the border of Co Londonderry and Co Donegal.

The teenager, who was the only occupant of the car, lost control of the vehicle and crashed at Tullyalley in Redcastle between 5pm and 6pm on Friday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

The stretch of road is closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

According to local councillor Martin Farren, the youngster was "incredibly well-liked by everyone in the area and from a very well-respected family".

"He was just starting summer holidays after just finishing his second year at Moville Community School and is the oldest of three siblings in his family. I can only imagine what his parents are going through and offer my sympathies, thoughts and prayers," he added.
