Teenage girl dies after swimming in sea in Co Louth

A 14-year-old girl has died after getting into difficulty swimming in Co Louth.

Gardai were called to the incident at Seapoint, Termonfeckin, at around 3pm on Friday.

It is understood the beach was busy in the afternoon due to the summer weather.

The girl was with a group of friends swimming before she got into difficulty whilst in the sea.

Gardai have confirmed she was airlifted by Coast Guard helicopter to Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda in a serious condition but has since died.

Investigations are ongoing.
