Ten arrested in fake money inquiry

Detectives have arrested 10 men after smashing a suspected counterfeit money-making operation.

Around 15 houses in Tipperary, Cork, Dublin and Waterford were searched in a wave of dawn raids targeting the organised crime racket.

Financial documents, drugs and homemade weapons - including bats with nails through them - were seized during the swoops.

It is understood the suspects, aged between 18 and 45 years old, are from the Traveller community.

They are being held and questioned under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at a number of Garda stations in the south east.

Cocaine and cannabis believed to be worth in the region of 10,000 euro was recovered during the co-ordinated searches and has been sent for forensic analysis.

Satellite navigation equipment was also seized.
