Two men and a woman have been arrested after the seizure of firearms, ammunition, drugs and a monkey in Dublin.

Gardai conducted a search operation at premises on Ratoath Road in Finglas on Friday morning.

One machine pistol, one sub-machine gun, one .357 calibre revolver, 300 rounds of assorted 9mm and .357 ammunition and 227 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun cartridges were seized.

Gardai also discovered almost 30,000 euro worth of cannabis and cocaine worth an estimated 97,300 euro.

Clothing with a value of 3,000 euro was also found.

It is understood a monkey in a cage was also found during the search.

It was taken away by animal welfare officers and is being cared for by the DSPCA.

Gardai said they were satisfied the seizure was connected to an organised crime gang.

Speaking to reporters Superintendent Liam Carolan said: “The access to the level of firearms is quite frightening and the ability to deploy those firearms in any kind of a feud situation is extremely concerning so I’m very proud of what was achieved by the team here today.”

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan congratulated the Garda on its work.

He tweeted: “I congratulate Gardai for the significant seizure of firearms, ammunition & drugs in Finglas today.

“The display makes for a truly shocking sight.

“Lethal weapons are intended to cause injury and take life. Those responsible must face full rigours of the law.”

The two men, one in his thirties and another in his forties, were arrested at the scene.

The woman, who is in her thirties, is being detained at Finglas Garda station.
