Three men have been arrested after the seizure of about 700,000 euro of drugs and cash in two separate searches in Co Tipperary and Co Carlow.

Two men were taken into custody following the seizure of drugs and cash worth more than 550,000 euro in Co Tipperary.

Gardai said officers were on patrol in Ballinure on Monday afternoon when they attempted to stop a van. The van initially failed to stop and two packages were thrown from it into a field before it stopped a short distance away.

The men, aged 22 and 45, were arrested and detained at Thurles garda station.

The packages were retrieved and found to contain ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of 150,000 euro.

Gardai then searched residential premises in Cashel and Killenaule and seized 400,000 euro of cannabis herb and 21,000 euro in cash.

In a separate operation detectives in Co Carlow recovered 125,000 euro of cannabis following a raid of premises in Phelim Wood, Tullow.

A total of 6.25kg of cannabis herb was discovered during the search on Friday May 17.

A man aged 44 was arrested at the scene and detained at Carlow garda station.
