Three men have been arrested after a shotgun was fired after gardai were involved in a high speed pursuit.

The incident occurred in the Larch Hill area of Monasterevin, Co Kildare after 9.30pm on Monday night after officers saw a black Audi estate driving through the town.

Gardai said a number of units saw the vehicle, including officers in the Ashgrove area who gave chase.

The car, with a 151 G registration, stopped on Larch Hill and a man got out of the front passenger seat armed with a suspected shotgun and fired one round.

Gardai said no-one was injured in the incident.

The arrested men aged, 23, 27 and 32, were detained following the incident when a silver Hyundai car was stopped at Pollardstown, Newbridge.
