Three held over jewellery shop raid

Three men have been arrested over an armed robbery at a jewellers.

The owner of the premises in Trim, Co Meath, a man aged in his 70s, was assaulted during the incident.

Gardai said he was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.

A gang held up the jewellers, on Emmett Street. They left with a quantity of jewellery.

Gardai responding to the robbery arrested one man outside the shop.

The other two were arrested a short time later with the assistance of the Regional Support Unit and the Garda Air Support Unit.

"What is believed to be an imitation firearm was recovered," said a Garda spokesman.

The three men are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Trim and Kells Garda stations.
