Tributes as Shelbourne teen Izzy Dezu dies after match in Dublin

BY Alan O'Keeffe

A talented teenage Irish footballer has died after collapsing during a match.

Shelbourne FC striker Izzy Dezu (16) - who played in the SuperCupNI for Cherry Orchard in 2016 - fell ill during a Dublin and District Schoolboys League (DDSL) under-16s game against St Kevin's Boys on Tuesday night at the AUL Grounds in Clonshaugh, north Dublin.

Frantic efforts to revive him at the scene were unsuccessful.

He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Ireland President Michael D Higgins led tributes, describing him as "a brilliant young member of Shelbourne FC's under-16 academy".
