Two arrested after drone and drugs seized outside prison

A 46-year-old man and the 45-year-old woman have been detained following the discovery in Castlerea.

A man and woman have been arrested after gardai seized a drone and drugs outside a prison in Co Roscommon.

A car was stopped and searched at Harristown, Castlerea next to to Castlerea Prison at approximately 11am on Thursday.

Gardai arrested the 46-year-old man and the 45-year-old woman following the interception of the drone, controlled drugs and a number of items.

During the course of the search, two mobile phones, a watch phone, approximately 440 tablets and cannabis herb – which are subject to analysis – were recovered, along with the drone – which was in the process of being set up.

The pair are currently detained at Castlerea garda station.

In a statement the governor at Castlerea Prison said: “The prison works closely with An Garda Siochana and we welcome their intervention and continued support in assisting the prevention of contraband entering our facility.”
