Two arrested in Denis Donaldson murder case
Two men were arrested yesterday by gardai investigating the murder of IRA informer Denis Donaldson.
A 70-year-old man was detainde for allegedly withholding information on the killing. Later, a second man was also arrested and held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
The former paramilitary and senior Sinn Fein officer was shot dead at his home by a Real IRA hit squad in Co Donegal on April 4, 2006. The previous December, the west Belfast man admitted he had worked as an informer within the republican movement for many years.
In the early 2000s, Donaldson was appointed Sinn Fein's Northern Ireland Assembly group administrator in Parliament Buildings.
The man arrested in Co Donegal yesterday is being held at Letterkenny garda station.
