Two questioned by police after rifle is found in car in Dundalk

Detectives investigating dissident republicans are questioning two men after the seizure of a gun.

The pair - aged in their 40s and 50s - were arrested during an operation in Dundalk.

The man in his 40s was detained after officers stopped and searched a car on Point Road in the Co Louth town on Tuesday. A rifle was recovered.

In a follow-up operation, a man in his late 50s was arrested during a raid on a house in the Dundalk area.

Both men are being held under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Dundalk Garda station. Enquiries are ongoing.
