Two women killed in road accidents

Two women were killed when they were knocked down in separate road accidents, gardai have said.

A 38-year-old pedestrian died instantly when she was hit by a truck in Co Cork at 4.30pm on Tuesday.

The collision happened near the local creamery and the Co-Action Centre at Slip in Bantry.

A 71-year-old woman was struck by a car at The Quay in Waterford City at 6pm.

She was rushed to Waterford Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The road remained closed pending a forensic collision investigation.

Their deaths take the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year to 20.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to either accident to come forward.
