Unruly passenger taken off plane

A transatlantic flight had to divert to Shannon Airport after a passenger became unruly.

The Austrian Airlines jet carrying 180 passengers was en route from Washington to Vienna when it landed at Shannon at about 7am on Saturday.

Gardai said a 32-year-old man had been restrained by passengers after becoming unruly.

Officers met the flight on the ground and took the man, believed to be an Austrian national, into custody.

He was being held under the Air, Navigation and Transport Act.
