Woman charged in 1988 death case

A 57-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the death of a Dublin man almost 25 years ago.

Gardai investigating the serious assault of Christopher Payne, which led to his death six months later, arrested the woman in England on a European arrest warrant.

She will appear before the Courts of Criminal Justice on Friday charged in connection with the father of two's death.

The 52-year-old was attacked at his home in Rutland Grove, Crumlin, in May 1988 by a group of men armed with a hatchet.

He sustained serious head injuries and died the following November.

The arrest follows a review of the case by gardai in Crumlin and the Garda Serious Crime Review Team.
