Woman dies in Cavan hospital after being found outside apartment

A woman has died after being found outside an apartment with head injuries.

Gardai said the 54-year-old was discovered at Kempton Court in Cavan town at about 6.35am on Thursday and was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination was being carried out to determine the cause of death.

Gardai said detectives were investigating all the circumstances of the woman's death and that the scene had been preserved for forensic analysis.

A family liaison officer has been appointed in the case.

The woman was initially treated by paramedics where she was found and later in Cavan General Hospital.

Detectives appealed for anyone who was in the Kempton Court or Drumalee areas of the town between 3am and 7am to contact them or for anyone with information about the woman's death to get in touch with the local station or any other Garda contact number.

"The course of the investigation will be determined by the outcome of the post-mortem examination," the Garda press office said.

Later, gardai said the post mortem examination revealed the death was not suspicious.

A file will be prepared for the coroner's office, a spokesman said.
