Woman found dead in Co Mayo house

The body of a 46-year-old woman has been discovered at a house in Co Mayo.

The suspicious death is being investigated by gardai after her remains were found at a property in Derrycrieve, Islandeady, Castlebar, at 1.40am on Wednesday.

The body remains at the scene, which has been preserved pending a forensic examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.

The state pathologist's office has been notified.

A man was later arrested in relation to the woman's death.

A garda spokesman said the suspect, in his 20s, was arrested at 8am in the town.

"He is currently detained at Castlebar Garda Station under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984," he added.
