Woman gives birth on packed commuter train
A woman gave birth to a baby girl on board a train travelling from Galway to Heuston this evening.
Medical personnel were identified on the train and helped to deliver the baby on the 3.05pm service from Galway to Heuston.
It's understood the woman went into labour as the train neared Kildare station, which was a scheduled stop on the route, at approximately 5pm.
The train was delayed at the station for 80 minutes and an ambulance was called, which took the woman and her newborn to hospital.
“Irish Rail wishes her and her new baby well,” said a spokesperson for Irish Rail.
After the woman and her newborn daughter were conveyed to hospital, the train continued its journey to its Dublin destination.
