Woman 'punched in face before carjacking and crash'

Gardai are attempting to identify the driver of a car which crashed where a woman alleged she was the victim of a carjacking and assault.

The accident occurred at about 5.30am on the approach to a roundabout on the R132 near Lissenhall in north Dublin.

Gardai said a 36-year-old woman was spoken to at the scene by officers and taken to Beaumont Hospital.

The woman, who had been in the back seat of the car, alleged that a man had hijacked her car and then ran away from the scene following the accident.

It is understood that the woman alleged that an unidentified man had got into the car while she had been stopped earlier at traffic lights and he punched her in the face a number of times before forcing her into the back seat and driving off and crashing.

A Garda spokeswoman said no arrests have been made.
