Road closed after 'serious collision' outside Ballygowan

By Gillian Halliday

A stretch of Co Down road is expected to remain closed until Thursday morning after a serious collision took place on the outskirts of Ballygowan.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance spokesman said it received a 999 call at 20.53pm to report a road traffic collision on the Ballygowan Road in Comber.

Two A&E crews, one doctor and one ambulance officer went to the scene.

Following an assessment and initial treatment one patient was taken to Ulster Hospital.

Police subsequently closed the road between the village roundabout and The Brae junction in the Comber direction as emergency services attended the scene.

Local councillor Robert Gibson said his “thoughts and well-wishes” were with those involved.
