Search after aircraft ‘crash’ reports

Emergency services will today resume their search for a light aircraft believed to have gone missing over high ground in Co Fermanagh.

Yesterday crews scoured the Monea and Boho areas of Enniskillen after reports that a small plane had crashed in the area.

It is understood a member of the public alerted St Angelo Airport in Enniskillen just before 10am. As well as a reported sighting, several local people said they heard a loud bang in the area at around the same time.

Police and fire crews were dispatched and a full-scale search began.

However, poor visibility hampered search efforts and the police helicopter was called in.

The Irish Coastguard’s search and rescue chopper was also dispatched but it too failed to find any sign of the crash.

The hunt covered a wide area from Enniskillen northwards to Belleek and from Lower Lough Erne westwards to the border with the Republic.
