Belfast's latest beauty queen will be crowned in the traditional surroundings of St George's market later this month.

The Miss Belfast competition will take part on the opening night of the Magners Light Spring Into Summer fashion event which takes place on April 15.

The city centre market - home to fish, fruit and flower stalls - will be transformed into a fashionistas' paradise over two nights, with top Irish models wearing the latest high street and designer collections.

The first evening 'Hit the High Street' will showcase designs from leading retailers and will incorporate the Miss Belfast Competition.

Last year's Miss Belfast, Rebecca Hughes, officially launched this year's competition which is sponsored by Debenhams and Benefit Makeup, headed up by Irish makeup artist of the year, Rosemary Wright.

Rebecca is encouraging any girl wanting to be a model to enter this year's competition where the winner will walk away with thousands of pounds worth of prizes, including a modelling contract with the Style Academy, cut and blow dry from Michael Quinn Hairdressing and a weekend away at the Dublin Skylon Hotel. The winner will also represent Belfast in the 'Miss Ireland Universe'.

The Ballymena girl said she had enjoyed her reign as Miss Belfast.

She said: "Winning Miss Belfast last year was an amazing and I'll never forget the experience I had at the Miss Ireland final."
