Springsteens check out Ulster horse

By Eddie McIlwaine

Bruce Springsteen's glamorous wife Patti Scialfa who sang with him at the Odyssey just over a week ago, could be back in Ireland soon - to buy a horse.

In fact it could be the bay she trotted up near the Arena a few hours before the sell-out Belfast concert, watched by early arrivals for the performance who were totally unaware of who she was.

Patti and her superstar husband had just arrived back at the Odyssey last Tuesday afternoon from a drive around the sights of Belfast - up the Shankill and down the Falls - when the animal was unloaded from a horse box for the couple to admire.

Advised by the two women who owned the horse, Patti took the reins and trotted it around for several minutes.

Afterwards the horse was fed and watered and stabled in an empty shed at the Odyssey while its owners attended the concert as guests of the Springsteens.

No deal was struck at the show, but it is understood Patti was impressed by the animal and could be back in Ireland soon to see other horse flesh courtesy of Co Kildare trainer Enda Bolger, in whose stable is the regular Cheltenham winner Spot the Difference.

The Springsteens, accompanied in Belfast by children Evan (16), Jessica (15) and Sam (12), are keen racing and show jumping fans and own several horses back home in New Jersey.
