Sunny outlook for 18,000 runners in Belfast Marathon

A record number of runners and walkers will take to the streets of Belfast this morning for the 29th Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon,

The 18,150 participants, up 900 on last year, can take comfort in the knowledge the chance of rain is slim with sunny spells on the forecast.

Among those signed up to the marathon run, walk, relay and fun run will be defending champion John Mutai from Kenya.

The official nominated charities for this year are Marie Curie Cancer Care and Concern Worldwide, though scores of other charities will also benefit from the fundraising efforts of people taking part.

Regular traffic updates will be given via the marathon’s official media sponsor U105 and from the Traffic Information Control Centre on 084 5712 3321.
