Teen who shot sister is sent back to prison

A teenager who accidentally shot dead his 12-year-old sister had “learned nothing” from her death, a judge said yesterday, as he jailed him for nine years for possessing a loaded handgun.

Kasha Peniston (19) killed his sister Kamilah at the family home in Gorton, Manchester in 2007.

Peniston, then aged 16, found the gun, a .38 snubnose gas action revolver, and held it against his sister's forehead. He thought he had deactivated the gun and pulled the trigger. His sister died in hospital the next day.

Peniston, of Peel Grove, Longsight, Manchester, was given a shortened two-year jail term in October 2007 for the manslaughter of Kamilah because of the “unusual circumstances” of the case, and with time on remand was released on May 1 2008.

But he began street dealing heroin and cocaine, Manchester Crown Court was told, and in October last year was caught by police driving a gang “pool car” and with a loaded revolver.

Judge Michael Henshell said Peniston had learned nothing from his sister’s death and added: “It is almost beyond belief that could happen and happen within a short time of your release.”
