Town gets its teeth into 120kg shark
Shark steaks went on sale in a seaside town yesterday after a trawlerman landed a monster catch in his net.
Richard Brannigan was fishing for prawns off the coast of Skerries, Co Dublin at the weekend when he got more than be bargained for.
The skipper of the Ambitious trawler caught a Porbeagle shark weighing 120 kgs. Porbeagles are common in Irish waters but they're rarely caught and are unpopular with trawlermen. The shark has sharp teeth and is so big that it can damage the gear.
The catch was bought by Dorans fish shop in Howth. Owner Sean Doran said the shark is being cut up for steaks.
