Three men are poised to quite literally put their money where their mouths are by travelling to Mongolia in an ambulance.
Alan Magee (27), Stephen Robinson (26) and Ben Hanvey (26) are gearing up for an epic drive from Belfast to Bataar, where the emergency vehicle will be donated to a children’s hospital.
The fundraising event, known as the Mongol Rally, involves travelling through 18 countries before reaching the Mongolian capital.
The game trio are hoping to attract money from the business community to add to what they have already raised through their own fundraising efforts.
For example, schoolchildren from Friends’ School in Lisburn raised a staggering £10,000 by holding a sponsored walk comprising 10,000 steps for 10,000 miles to replicate the distance the team will cover en route to the Asian country.
“We chose to travel in an ambulance so we could donate it to a children’s hospital out there and then fly home,” Glengormley man Alan said.
“Hopefully people will get behind us and help us raise money for charity.”
All donations will go to CashforKids, a local charity, and MercyCorps Mongolia. For more information visit www.mongoforarally.com.
