Amazon helps deliver 148 jobs via new service in NI

By John Mulgrew

Online retailer Amazon is bringing its in-house delivery service to Northern Ireland in a move that will lead to the creation almost 150 jobs.

Amazon Logistics is to set up shop near Carrickfergus, beginning delivery in Northern Ireland as early as next week.

The firm is creating 18 new jobs at its base outside the Co Antrim town.

Four independent delivery companies that Amazon intends to use have hired 130 people because of the deal.

The company has been operating its Amazon Logistics delivery service elsewhere in the UK since 2012.

It said that the scheme "empowers independent local, regional and national delivery companies across the UK to deliver Amazon parcels to customers every day of the week", including on Sunday.

An Amazon spokesman said the firm was "employing 18 people directly at the new delivery station in Kilroot Business Park, Carrickfergus, which opens next week".
