Arrest made after armed thugs rob store of cash

By Aaron Tinney

A shop worker was left terrified after two masked thieves armed with a gun and screwdriver ordered him to hand over money.

The thugs struck as their victim opened a store on Linn Road, Craigyhill in Larne yesterday at 6.40am. One was armed with what police believe was a firearm and the other a screwdriver.

The store worker they threatened handed over money and the thieves escaped in a stolen silver Nissan Micra car that had been taken from the Argyll Avenue area of Larne between 10pm on Saturday and 6.10am Sunday.

The car was found abandoned at around 7.35am yesterday morning at Inver Road, Larne. Police have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of robbery. He was still in custody last night.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The male member of staff was not injured, however he was left very badly shaken."

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact detectives at Larne on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 208 19/06/17.
