Author JK Rowling gives £1m to support Scottish independence 'No' vote

Author JK Rowling has donated £1m to support a No vote in the Scottish independence referendum.

The Harry Potter author, who lives in Edinburgh, also wrote about the "serious risks" of independence on her blog.

Her donation is by far the biggest yet for the pro-Union campaign.

Rowling wrote that, while she was "no fan of the current Westminster government", she had concerns about the economic risks of independence.

Referring to characters from her Harry Potter books, she added: "When people try to make this debate about the purity of your lineage, things start getting a little Death Eaterish for my taste."
