Body found in lake search for missing boy, 17

Emergency services had been combing the lake in Warwickshire since the alarm was first raised on Thursday afternoon.

Rescue teams searching a lake following a report of a 17-year-old boy getting into difficulty in the water have recovered a body.

Warwickshire Police said the emergency services found a body in the Blue Lagoon, at Bishops Itchington at 10.50am on Friday, after the alarm was first raised at 6.30pm on Thursday.

Ambulance crews who were on the scene were told the teenager had got into difficulty after going into the lake at the popular beauty spot near Leamington Spa.

A formal identification has yet to take place but next of kin have been informed.

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner in due course.

Meanwhile, a scene cordon and road closure remain in place.

Inspector Rupert Atkinson, of Warwickshire Police, said: “The family are being supported by specially-trained officers and we would ask that people respect their privacy at this difficult time.

“I would like to thank everyone in the local community and on social media who has offered their help since yesterday evening.”
